> Edge Leisure Ltd is a diverse Sports and Leisure specialist company, the only one of its kind in the UK and probably Europe. With offices in Lincolnshire and Devon, Edge Leisure Ltd are supporting its clients with Training, Health and Safety Leisure Systems, Lifeguard Recruitment and Daytime Activity Packages.
The management team at Edge Leisure Ltd is Joshua Stunell (Director) Sean Bates (Training Manager) and Matt Smith (Lifeguard Discovery Manager). The team are well regarded and respected within the leisure industry especially the Holiday Park sector. Together they have over 40 years of knowledge and experience, at all levels of leisure management.
Joshua Stunell was Head of Bourne Leisures Sports and Leisure department and worked within the company for nine years. Previous to 2002 the Holidays division was owned by Rank.
His first role was at Lyme Bay Holiday Park (Haven Warner) as a Pool Lifeguard and Swimming Pool Supervisor, he worked there for two summer seasons before taking up his next position as a Swimming Pool Manager at West Bay Holiday Park in Dorset. During his time at West Bay, Joshua was also Head Football Coach at The Devon County FA Centre of Football Excellence.
In 1998 Joshua was promoted to Sports and Leisure Manager at Blue Dolphin Holiday Park, North Yorkshire, this role included leisure responsibilities for three neighbouring Holiday Parks, Cayton Bay, Whitby and Riverside.
In March 2000 Joshua was again promoted, this time to head of Sports and Leisure for the Rank Group Organisation based at their Head Office in Hemel Hempstead, in 2002 the Rank Group Holidays division was bought by Bourne Leisure Ltd where Joshuas role developed.
The main areas of Joshuas responsibility were:
Recruitment
Recruit, train, contract and develop forty Sports and Leisure Managers, who will be able to Manage Swimming Pools, Spas, Plant rooms, Sports Facilities and Sports programmes. Oversee the recruitment of over four hundred lifeguards who must all be trained to the RLSS unit 1 and 2, levels before going on poolside.
Oversee the recruitment of Sports Coaches and general leisure assistants.
Product development
Develop the daytime leisure offer - this area is a major influencing factor when families book a holiday, rebook and or also consider holiday home ownership, and this was an area in which Bourne Leisure wanted to develop and they took this very seriously as they could see the business rewards.
Many of the activities Joshua developed were exclusive and unique to Bourne Leisures customers, these programmes very often started off as just a concept, then after a series of development sessions grew into offers that enhanced the customer's holiday experience.
Health and Safety
Ensuring that all Sports and Leisure Team Members had the correct qualifications, this was managed by regional and national training workshops
Responsible for developing and implementing the Swimming Pool Operating and emergency action plans.
Achieve IQL Approved training centre status at over fifty UK Resorts.
Joshuas Health and Safety Responsibilities also extended to Warner Hotels, Haven Europe and Butlins.
In 2004 after an extremely successful career with Bourne Leisure Ltd Joshua left to manage Edge Leisure Ltd.
Sean Bates
Sean joined Edge Leisure Ltd from 15 to 2 Leisure Training. Sean has a wealth of leisure and entertainment experience having worked for 20s Holidays, Boulevard Care, Butlins, Haven and Great British Holidays.
Sean brings an unrivalled passion and energy to Edge Leisure Ltd and is well renowned for making his courses entertaining and fun in order to deliver a complete learning experience.
It has often been said that regardless of Seans exceptional training abilities, companies would employ Sean just to be part of their organisation. Just to be Sean and let his magic rub off on others.
Matt Smith
Matts first introduction to leisure was at Devon Cliffs Holiday Park, Bourne Leisures (formerly rank) flagship resort, where he worked as a lifeguard and realised his passion for the leisure industry.
After a solid grounding in the Sports and Leisure department it wasnt long before he was appointed Sports and Leisure Manager of two parks in Dorset, Weymouth Bay and Seaview. Matt gave the department a much needed, total overhaul which became a great success, so much that he received recognition by being presented Sports and Leisure Manager Newcomer of the Year at Bourne Leisures, Entertainment Awards 2001 this was follow the by another award in 2002 for Outstanding Commitment and Dedication.
Bourne leisure then decided to utilize Matt to improve other areas of their business by appointing him Deputy General Manager at a resort in Kent, where he became significant in leading the Team to the resorts most successful year on record.
Matt decide to gain experience within a sales environment so moved to Cornwall to join the Caravan Sales Team at another Bourne Leisure resort, where he again achieved success and established himself in a sales environment.
After a brief time as Deputy General Manager with another holiday provider, Weststar Holidays, Matt joined the Team at Edge Leisure and is leading the Lifeguard Discovery programme.
